Glass is an all-day product. Everyone knows it, everyone uses it. We turn it into something special. But how? Here is a quick, five-step explanation:

1. Mixture & Melt

Glass generally consists of different raw materials which are available e.g. as granulates. Depending on the type and shape of the glass that shall be produced these raw materials are first of all weighted out accordingly, then portioned and finally mixed homogeneously by machine.

The created mixture is conveyed to the melting tank and is heated up inside the melting oven to temperatures exceeding 1,600 degrees Centigrade. The solid basic materials become a liquid glass mass which can be moulded into any desired shape.

2. Shaping

At this stage, precision work is required for the molten glass mass is now portioned into small batches of single glass drops which are still at a temperature of over 1,000 degrees Centigrade. These drops fall into a glass machine and are blown into a mould with the shape of the desired glass container (e.g. a bottle). The design options are nearly unlimited.

3. Cooling

The finished shapes now have to cool down carefully. The duration of cooling down depends on the individual type of glass and its thickness. It usually takes between 30 to 100 minutes and takes place in a special stress-relieving oven.

When the glass has achieved the necessary stability for further production steps, a special surface finish is sprayed onto the still warm glass. This gives the glass extra protection and minimises friction during transport.

4. Quality Control

During the following quality control the glass is examined thoroughly. If a glass item shows the slightest flaws or impurities, it is immediately sorted out and re-melted. Noelle + von Campe are certified according to quality standard DIN EN ISO 9001 – the demands regarding the material are accordingly high.

Computer based controls guarantee this high quality standard during the whole production. In short: You can be absolutely sure of only flawless products leaving our facility.

5. Storage & Delivery

The last step is easily explained: after the glass containers have passed all controls successfully, they are safely palletised and brought into the storage. From there, they are delivered to our customers.
